Beware...Parental Child Abduction season is approaching

Beware the season is approaching.....holiday season is the high season for 'International Parental Child Abductions'.....
Around this time each year CARI is contacted by many frantic parents who have had their child/children abducted or re...tained in a foreign country.

CARI knowns particularly in the lead up to the school holidays; that before or during school holidays is one of the most common times for a child to be abducted. One parent takes the child/children alone on a holiday and never returns often taking the child/children overseas to parts unknown.

UK figures alone, show that Parental Child Abduction and custody cases have doubled in the space of a decade - from 272 in 2003 to 580 in 2013.

 Some signs (not limited to the below) to look out for;
-The most obvious warning sign is a break down in a relationship,
-A sudden interest in getting a passport or copy birth certificate for the child,
-Concealed, hidden, and abrupt communication with individuals or family members living in a foreign country,
-A parent expressing a wish to holiday alone with the child,
-A change in circumstances such as leaving employment or redundancy, selling a house or giving up tenancy,
-No financial reason to stay,
-An announcement of an unexpected trip to another country with the child.

Abductions happen as easy as the abductor saying they are taking the children out for the day to a Theme Park and before you know it, you receive a message from a foriegn number stating your children are not returning.

International Parental Child Abduction is and has been a worldwide epidemic problem, and it can happen to you! Remember, the Hague Convention is only a tool to assist in the return of your child, and a somewhat unreliable tool.......Prevention is better than cure. There are still also a large amount of countries who have not and will not sign up to the Hague Convention, then you have those that are signed up, but refuse to adhere to the laws on returning abducted children.

CARI is available for advice on prevention measures, warning signs or support if you just need someone to talk to. Many of our past clients are also happy to offer support as they have been in the shoes of a 'victim parent'. There is no better advice then from people who have experienced it all.

Many parents ask CARI for advice on how to prevent one parent from taking the child abroad on holiday. However, this is very difficult to prevent when the courts in many countries often do not take parental concerns seriously or enforce court rulings.

Child abductors are not penalized in their home countries, since The Hague Convention on International Child Abduction is only a tool for the return of children to their Habitual Residence and does not deal with punishment. In fact most authorities turn a blind eye to Parental Child Abduction.

Follow your gut feelings, if you think something is not right contact CARI.......
